Matching Grant(s) for Commercial Rainwater Management

Over the past ten years, the Fulton Environment Committee has help fund rainwater management projects for residents.  Money was allocated to pay for professional consultations and implementation costs for rain barrels, gutter redirection, rain gardens, French drains and dry creek beds.  This year the committee is reaching out to businesses in the neighborhood to offer matching grant(s) up to $13,000 to make improvements in managing rainwater from roofs and parking lots.

The committee invites Fulton commercial property owners to submit written plans for consideration.  Eligible project ideas include permeable parking lots, green roofs, gutter direction into rain gardens, or other run-off alternatives.  All projects will be evaluated by a certified Rainwater Management Consultant for long-term viability of the project and the benefit to the neighborhood.

Submit written plans to: Environment Committee, Pershing Park, 3523 West 48th St., Minneapolis, MN  55410 by June 15, 2010.

The B.L.E.N.D. Award Committee is issuing a call for submissions for the fourth annual B.L.E.N.D. Award is proudly sponsored by Fulton Neighborhood Association, Armatage Neighborhood Association, East Harriet Farmstead Neighborhood Association, Kenny Neighborhood Association and Linden Hills Neighborhood Council.

In 2009, six projects were selected for recognition.  If your remodel, addition, or new home was completed within the last five years and you live in one of the participating neighborhoods, please consider submitting your project this year.  The submission deadline is Fri., July 30, 2010, at 5:00 p.m.

Eligible projects include new buildings , exterior remodels, renovations or additions to existing buildings, and landscape projects that have been completed since July 1, 2005.  Projects must be located within the boundaries of the participating southwest neighborhoods.  A jury of design professionals and neighborhood residents will select projects to be awarded.  An award ceremony and media release is scheduled to correspond with the FNA  Annual  Meeting on Oct. 13, 2010, at Pershing Park, 3523 W. 48th St., Minneapolis, MN 55410.

B.L.E.N.D. stands for Buildings and Landscapes Enhancing the Neighborhood through Design.  “The name and the award represent the residents’ recognition of interest in their neighborhood and encouragement of progress while balancing a need for compatibility with existing residences,” said Phil Rader, AIA, an architect on the Fulton Neighborhood Association’s Zoning Committee and founding member of the B.L.E.N.D. Award Committee.

Details of participating neighborhoods, project categories, mailing instructions, eligibility, and submission guidelines can be found on the B.L.E.N.D. Award website, www.blendaward.org, or by contacting Phil Rader, prader@philrader.com.
