(Submitted by Dave Delvoye)

48th & Chowen traffic issues

The Safety meeting on July 29 with staff from the Ward 13 office, Public Works Traffic and Parking Services, and the 5th Precinct resulted in an agreement by the City to investigate using the following traffic tools to address the problems identified at 48th & Chowen:

  • Speed display wagon
  • “Stop Ahead” sign on 48th St between Drew Ave and Chowen Ave
  • Prohibit turns onto Chowen Ave from 50th St during rush hours
  • Wrap existing Stop signs in red tape for maximum visibility
  • Replace existing Stop signs with larger or brighter signs if warranted
  • Concrete island in the center of the intersection at 48th & Chowen to force slower turning maneuvers
