Fulton Safety committee report:  November, 2014

(Submitted by Dave Delvoye)

Fulton neighborhood crime reports

October 6  At about 7:55 a.m., a person called 911 to report that a suspect wearing a black hoodie broke into a vehicle which was parked at East Lake Harriet Parkway & Thomas Ave.  The suspect got into the passenger seat of a pickup truck with a loud muffler which drove away.  The owner of the vehicle which had been broken into – the driver’s side front window had been smashed – was not present, so the loss was unknown at the time the initial report was made.

October 8  At about 9:30 a.m., an officer responded to a fight at 50th & France.  Edina police had two people stopped.  It was found to be a mutual fight.  The victim stated that the suspect, a 25-year-old male, slapped a cell phone out of the victim’s hand – she was going to call 911 for police.  The phone fell to the ground and the battery fell out, preventing the victim from making the 911 call.  The suspect then claimed that he was having medical issues and asked to be taken to a hospital.  The suspect, who will be charged with interfering with a 911 call, was transported to a hospital by ambulance.

October 14  At about 11:50 p.m., officers at 50th & Sheridan stopped a juvenile who was riding a bike eastbound on 50th St with no head lamp.  A 14-year-old male lied about his age to the officers and was cited for curfew violation and transported home.

October 16  Between 10:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m., unknown suspects entered a home on the 4800 block of Russell through an unlocked sliding door and took unlisted items.  Three of the victim’s credit cards were used overnight at several local gas stations.

October 16  Between 10 p.m. October 16 and 2 p.m. October 17, an unknown suspect broke the rear window of a vehicle which was parked in the rear driveway of a home on the 4800 block of Russell.

October 17  Between noon and 2:30 p.m., unknown suspect(s) broke out two windows on two garage doors at a home on the 4900 block of Sheridan.  No entry was made to the garage.  The victim stated that it appeared to be an act of vandalism – a pumpkin was also smashed in front of the garage.

October 23  Between 8:00 and 8:20 p.m., an unknown suspect smashed the rear driver’s side window of a vehicle which was parked in the lot at Pig & Fiddle, 3812 West 50th St, and took a work bag from the back seat containing 15 keys, headphones, a 401k statement, $320 cash, two checks, and other items.

October 28  Between 1 p.m. October 28 and 9 p.m. October 29, a theft occurred at an address on the 5200 block of Abbott.

October 31  Between 5:00 and 7:20 p.m., an unknown suspect smashed out the rear window of a vehicle which was parked in back of Little Enhancements, 5013 Ewing Ave, and took a laptop computer and a briefcase.  A witness gave police a description of a male suspect who left the area in a car.  Between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. the same day, two vehicles parked at Cave Vin, 5555 Xerxes Ave in Armatage, were also broken into and items were taken.  At about 9 p.m., police responded to an address on the 5000 block of Oliver – in an alley, near a garage –  where a person had recovered some of the items stolen in these three thefts, including the briefcase – but not the laptop – from the first incident.

November 1  Between 6 p.m. November 1 and 11 a.m. November 2, unknown suspect(s) stole a fireplace from the front yard of a home on the 2300 block of West 52nd St.

November 5  At about 8:30 a.m., an officer following up on a health and welfare check at an address on the 5300 block of Ewing arrested 38-year-old Corey Orres Grantham for interfering with a 911 call, domestic assault, disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property, and toxic substances – use for intoxication prohibited.

November 5  Between 5 and 7 p.m., an unknown suspect broke the driver’s side window of a vehicle which was parked at 50th & Ewing and took a backpack which contained a laptop computer, cell phone, and passport.

November 5  Between 5 and 7 p.m., an unknown suspect broke the rear passenger side window of a vehicle which was parked at 50th & Ewing.  No loss was reported.

November 8  At about 7 p.m., an officer arrested 38-year-old Corey Orres Grantham at an address on the 5300 block of Ewing for violating his conditions of release which prohibited him from being at this address and having contact with the resident.

The Fulton Safety Committee will meet on Tuesday, November 25, at 7 p.m.

at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 4801 France Ave.
