Confronting Racism MN Style – YWCA Workshop

January 18, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

*Please mark your calendars and join us virtually next Wednesday, January 19; 7:00 – 8:30p CST*

Based on receipt of a grant from the Fulton Neighborhood Association, the Lake Harriet Site Council is pleased to offer part 3 of a 4-part series of Racial Justice Workshops facilitated by YWCA Minneapolis.  This month’s workshop, “Confronting Racism MN Style” is designed for those who have a growing understanding of systems of power and privilege and want to acquire skills for interrupting racism wherever they see it.  The workshop will provide a space to practice skills to respond to overt racism (socially unacceptable), and covert racism (socially acceptable) within the dominant communication styles of the Midwest.

Please note that this event is open to all, regardless of if you have a student attending Lake Harriet Schools or reside in the Fulton or Linden Hills neighborhood.  That being said, this discussion will take place in an open, no-judgement space.  The intent of this discussion is to meet participants where they are; one of YWCA’s goals is to “not change minds, but shift perspectives.”  Please join us for this valuable discussion and consider embracing the chance to engage with others in your school and neighborhood as we learn together.  And please invite others in your circle to join you!

Note:  This is not a webinar.  Participants will be expected to be engaged in large and small group conversations, and are asked to stay for the full 90-minute duration of the workshop.  Please plan to arrive on time. We will also be offering a BIPOC specific working group as part of this workshop and discussion format for those interested.
