Hennepin County Offers New Master Recycler/Composter Program

  • March 16, 2011
  • Environment, Things To Do

Join fellow waste reduction enthusiasts and become an advocate for the three Rs in your community as a Hennepin County Master Recycler/ Composter. Master Recyclers/Composters are trained volunteers that work to reduce waste generation and increase public awareness of opportunities to recycle and compost.  Master Recyclers/Composters are trained on waste prevention, recycling and composting through an extensive two month course that features industry experts and field trips to local waste processing and recycling facilities.

After completing training, participants must commit to volunteer 30 hours. Volunteer activities include staffing booths at events, creating educational resources and displays and designing and implementing waste reduction plans for special events, schools and the workplace. Once the 30 hour commitment is fulfilled, participants are certified Master Recycler/Composters and encouraged to continue volunteer service.

The spring course will be held:

Tuesday evenings, April 12, 19, 26, May 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Hennepin County Environmental Services Building, 417 North Fifth Street, Minneapolis.

The course is limited to 30 participants. To be eligible for the program you must live or work in Hennepin County.

If you have questions about the program, please e-mail the Master Recycler/Composter Program Coordinator or call 612-596-0993.

To register, complete the Master Recycler/Composter online application form.
