There is currently a vacancy on the Minneapolis Charter Commission for a four-year term beginning May 1, 2011. The Commission is comprised of 15 members appointed by the Chief Judge of Hennepin County, the Honorable James T. Swenson. The basic job of the Charter Commission is to gather, receive, review, and/or propose amendments to the Charter, and then to determine if they are appropriate to submit to the voters or to the City Council for 13-0 passage. The Charter Commission, with the assistance of an Advisory Group, is responsible for redrawing Ward and Park district boundaries in the City after every census.
